"Which one is your favorite?" - II -

Here is the second post of the interactive series that recently started on the blog. All you need to do is to listen to the 3 different versions of the song I choose, pick the one that appeals to you the most and leave a comment on why you picked that particular one...You can make your comments here on the blog page (below the post), on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/atiblogger/) or on Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/atiblogger/)...

And our song for today is:

"Enjoy The Silence"

The original song is by the English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was recorded in 1989 and released as the second single from their seventh studio album, Violator (1990), on 16 January 1990. Songwriter Martin Gore created a ballad-like first version of the song, which the band took into the studio in 1989. Following band member Alan Wilder's insistence, the song was re-worked into the up-tempo version as released on the album. The song hit the 6th place in the UK charts and the 8th place in the US charts.

And now the 3 versions I chose for you;

  • Carla Bruni - "Enjoy The Silence"
  • Tori Amos - "Enjoy The Silence"
  • Moriarty - "Enjoy The Silence"
Now the floor is yours, go ahead and make your comments (here, Instagram, Facebook wherever you feel like...).

nb. Please note that I intentionally do not include the original versions of the songs as it would be a little unfair to the artists covering the songs, and I am sure that sometimes you will be surprised to see that the songs you thought were the originals are just covers...

Five Songs for the Weekend - XLII -

September is on the way and yet summer is going on with full steam ahead around here. Seems no need to get depressed that autumn's coming for at least another couple of weeks... Enjoy these last summer days, spend more time in the open air and listen to music every chance you get...

As Sir Arthur Conan Doyle once said;
“There is nothing more to be said or to be done tonight,
so hand me over my violin and let us try to
forget for half an hour the miserable weather and
the still more miserable ways of our fellowmen.”

And now, our list for this weekend;

  • Paolo Nutini - "Candy"
  • Martin Roth - "An Analog Guy In A Digital World"
  • The Cinematic Orchestra - "To Build a Home"
  • k.d. lang - "Constant Craving"
  • Bob Marley - "Sun is Shining"
Hope you have a great weekend.

"Which one is your favorite?" - I -

I've been meaning to start a new series on the blog called "Which is your favorite?" where I will be posting 3 different versions of the same song and you will comment (hopefully) which one you like the most. What would really please me and the other readers is that if you could also indicate why you think your choice is better than the others...

You can make your comments here on the blog page (below the post), on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/atiblogger/) or on Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/atiblogger/)...

One additional feature of the series will be that I will dash a brief note about the songs I will choose and I hope this will enable you, the listeners, to understand a bit better of the original song...

So here is our first song; please listen all, pick and comment on the one that appeals to you the most...

"Summertime"

The song is originally an aria from George Gershwin's 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. The opera is based on a book called "Porgy" by DuBose Heyward who is also credited of the lyrics of the song (in fact co-credited with Ira Gershwin).

Right after its introduction in "Porgy and Bess", the song became one of the most played jazz standards of all time and even today is being covered by many artists...

The 3 versions are below, please listen and comment on the one you like the most...

  • Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - "Summertime"
  • Janis Joplin - "Summertime"
  • Parov Stelar feat. Maya Bensalem - "Summertime"

Five Songs for the Weekend - XLI -

Terrible things going around the world, thousands of fires in Brazil's Amazon rainforest, deforestation of tens of thousands of trees on Mount Ida due to gold mining activities and melting glaciers in Iceland due to climate change. I think we are about to near the critical point of no return and none of the governments seem to care about this catastrophic issue. The human race should not be taking real actions when push comes to shove, right?  (actually we are at a stage that push came to shove but still...). Isn't it why we are humans? Or are we not?

Let's be Pollyannas for a while and believe that music can heal all this dreadfulness...

As Plato once said;
“Music is a more potent instrument than any other for education.”

And here is the list for this weekend;

  • Midnight Oil - "Blue Sky Mine"
  • Placebo - "The Bitter End"
  • Nina Simone - "Sinnerman"
  • Belle & Sebastian - "I Want The World To Stop"
  • Paco de Lucía & Al Di Meola - "Mediterranean Sundance"
Hope you have a great weekend.

Five Songs for the Weekend - XXXVIII -

Summer heat waves across Europe, record temperatures being recorded all over the world and still persistent denials of climate change from many governments. I guess next generations will really have to suffer from the consequences of actions (more non-actions) of today's politicians. But now  let's focus on music which might provide us some cool breeze at unpleasant times like this...

As Frank Zappa once said;
"Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom.
 Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty.
 Beauty is not love. Love is not music.
Music is the best."

So here's this week's list;

  • Devendra Banhart - "Carmensita"
  • Arto Tunçboyacıyan - "Küçük Kuş"

  • Hetty & the Jazzato Band - "Tu Vuo' Fa' L'Americano"
  • The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band - "Devils Look Like Angels"

  • Psyche - "Goodbye Horses (Immortality Mix)"

Hope you have a great weekend.
